I agree 100% with this. The Predators have too much invested in him $$-wise to trade him right now.

But let me throw this out there:
What if they had signed Suter to a long-term,big-$$ deal (assuming they could), then did the trade with Philly (rumors were a package of Braydon Schenn, Jake Voracek, Andrei Meszaros pre-injuries, MA Bourdon, and 2 1sts). Because they currently have one of their former franchise defensemen and nothing to show. Would you swap Suter for Weber if you could have that return coming over as well? I was actually praying they'd offer Suter a big deal, as that would really have forced their hand on Weber.

Much of what you have said is completely incorrect.

That said I agree that they will not trade him. But you are ranting about some guys speculations and then are turning around and stating your own speculations as fact.

The plan, as indicated by W. Brett Wilson, was for Suter to allow the Predators to match MN's offer. They would then have turned around and offered Weber the same contract. Suter never gave them that chance despite indicating that he would. As for whatever it was the Philly offered, Poile already turned it down once. There's no reason to believe he would accept just because Suter was signed. They really, REALLY wanted to keep all of the big 3, and they had the financial means to make that happen.

The plan was to sign them both. Debate that if you want, but... the money was/is there... just went in a different direction when Suter decided to move closer to spouse's family and play with Parise...

Paul, I agree with you for the most part. However, I disagree he will be a Predator for life. The only way he stays with the Preds for his whole career is if he wins a Cup in the next 4-6 years.

He will want a Cup and the longer he waits for it the less chances he will have. The Preds are a really good franchise but they have only won one series in there history.

Do you think they will win a cup in the next 4-6 years? Do you think loyalty to the Preds will outweigh winning the cup if the Preds do not win one in the next 4-6 years?

Don't even bring up suter, jones has already replaced him.
He has been forgotten in Nashville.

I agree with Paul, this Webber trade talk is just stupid.

Entirely possible, but the biggest problem with that demand is that he has no control over where he would go... The contract does not contain a "No Trade" or "No Move" clause.

I don't necessarily disagree with your point in Weber wanting a cup.

But I think the Preds have won more than one playoff series (Anaheim & Detroit).

I'm not saying he will be a Pred for life... the simple fact is, he won't be traded unless/until the Predators decide to. Weber likes living in Nashville.

Winning a cup... there is the rub. The Preds have two cornerstone pieces, Rinne and Weber... potentials in Jones and Josi... the key will be acquiring/developing some high-end offensive talent... that's where the team has struggled.

BTW... the Preds have won two series in the playoffs (Anaheim and Detroit) but who's counting.

Well number 1, your impression that Shea Weber loves Nashville is not a fact. You guys related or best friends?

"Fact 3" also isn't a fact. You don't know how the Predators are doing financially.

"Fact 4" also isn't a fact. You're not in the room when the Preds are discussing the stability of the franchise and what is needed to be successful.

I had a great post, but the website screwed up as I was posting it, so here's a quick gist of what the post was.

Nashville is not making the playoffs this year. And with the competition in the west being as fierce as it is, it's likely that with the current roster they have they will be fighting tooth and nail for a wild card spot for the next number of years. With Nashville being one of the lowest revenue generating teams, and basically losing money every year it's crucial for this team to make the playoffs. If ownership feels that this team is not good enough to make the playoffs, then they may want to make some moves to decrease payroll to offset this loss. Ownership may find Weber's signing bonuses (I think it's 13 million each year for the next couple of years, and then it's 8 million for a couple of years, on top of his salary) a hard pill to swallow, and may favor moving the contract for more manageable contracts. I'm not saying that this is going to happen, or that the Preds should do it, but with money conscious teams like the Preds, it's not inconceivable that this may happen.
